چکیده

We study the problem of computing correlation between two piecewise-linear bivariate functions defined over a common domain, where the surfaces they define in three dimensions— polyhedral terrains—can be transformed vertically by a linear transformation of the third coordinate (scaling and translation). We present a randomized algorithm that minimizes the maximum vertical distance between the graphs of the two functions, over all linear transformations of one of the terrains, in O(n4/3 polylogn) expected time, where n is the total number of vertices in the graphs of the two functions. We also present approximation algorithms for minimizing the mean distance between the graphs of univariate and bivariate functions. For univariate functions we present a (1 + ε)-approximation algorithm that runs in O(n(1 + log(1/ε))) expected time for any fixed ε > 0. The (1+ε)-approximation algorithm for bivariate functions runs in O(n/ε) time, for any fixed ε > 0, provided the two functions are defined over the same triangulation of their domain.

Idealized Piecewise Linear Branch Prediction

Traditional branch predictors exploit correlations between pattern history and branch outcome to predict branches, but there is a stronger and more natural correlation between path history and branch outcome. I exploit this correlation with piecewise linear branch prediction, an idealized branch predictor that develops a set of linear functions, one for each program path to the branch to be pre...

gH-differentiable of the 2th-order functions interpolating

Fuzzy Hermite interpolation of 5th degree generalizes Lagrange interpolation by fitting a polynomial to a function f that not only interpolates f at each knot but also interpolates two number of consecutive Generalized Hukuhara derivatives of f at each knot. The provided solution for the 5th degree fuzzy Hermite interpolation problem in this paper is based on cardinal basis functions linear com...

A green vehicle routing problem with customer satisfaction criteria

This paper develops an MILP model, named Satisfactory-Green Vehicle Routing Problem. It consists of routing a heterogeneous fleet of vehicles in order to serve a set of customers within predefined time windows. In this model in addition to the traditional objective of the VRP, both the pollution and customers’ satisfaction have been taken into account. Meanwhile, the introduced model prepares a...

On the relation between Lyapunov exponents and exponential decay of correlations

Chaotic dynamics with sensitive dependence on initial conditions may result in exponential decay of correlation functions. We show that for onedimensional interval maps the corresponding quantities, that is, Lyapunov exponents and exponential decay rates are related. For piecewise linear expanding Markov maps observed via piecewise analytic functions we provide explicit bounds of the decay rate...
